Their Life
Have you even encountered someone who basically pours their life out onto you within minutes of meeting you? I met just one such person this week at work. Within fifteen minutes of meeting she came up to me and thrust pictures into my face. I asked what they were pictures of. "My house flooded from the rain a week ago." In the spirit of being a decent human I looked through them and added all the appropriate "wows", "ohs", and "i can't believe it's." Don't get me wrong, I did feel for her and all that she went through and is still going through but I was a little taken back by her need for me to know that her home flooded. She continued to insert little comments about her damaged home the entire time we worked together and was sure to tell almost everyone she came into contact with that her home had flooded. Maybe she needed the sympathy...who knows. What I do know is that I could have done without being forced to immediately feel sorry for her within the first few minutes of knowing her.

A Very Special Lady
From the first day I met you I was always made to feel part of your family
There was always a hug there waiting for me
Your kindness amazed me
Your funny quips made me laugh
Your love will be missed
But your memories will live on
In the hearts of those you loved and who loved you
You're at peace now
There was always a hug there waiting for me
Your kindness amazed me
Your funny quips made me laugh
Your love will be missed
But your memories will live on
In the hearts of those you loved and who loved you
You're at peace now
The Political Spectrum In My Eyes
At the beginning of the election season I couldn't get myself to get fired up about it. I'm happy to report that while I probably won't blog much about politics from now until November, I am fired up about two things right now.
1) Governor Palin's daughter is as we all know by now pregnant out of wedlock. The governor states that her daughter is engaged to the father of her unborn baby and they plan on marrying. Fine. I'm not preaching about the daughter here. I know many people who have had children out of wedlock and they are some of the most wonderful parents I have ever met. What pisses me off the most is that if Senator Obama's girls were teenagers instead of young children and one of them became pregnant out of wedlock James Dobson and all the other right-wing religious freaks would be screaming from the rooftops about premarital sex and sinning. But since Governor Palin's daughter comes from a religious family and the Governor herself is running for Vice-President it's OK. Poof, she's marrying him so she's automatically absolved of any sin. It isn't surprising...the Governor herself had her first son 8 months after she was married. But again no conservatives are yelling about this...the same conservatives that rail about the sanctity of marriage and abstinence.
2) It's my hope that all Americans get the hard facts about each candidate before making their choice in November. A friend of mine who also happens to be a very wise man said this to me today and I believe it to be so true "Democrats fall in love, Republicans fall in line." Don't listen to media clips and what others tell you about the candidates, do your research and make the choice for yourself regardless of your party affiliation. It's time we as Americans stood up and demanded change. It doesn't matter what party you lean toward, our economy is in the tank and our image has been badly damaged abroad, now is the time to put America back on the map as the country all others look to.
