Merry Christmahanukwanzuka

Instead of sitting at home alone this Christmas Eve I decided I would get out and take a little walk to see all the neighborhood lights. I also needed to go to the bank so I thought what a better way to combine both into one. I dug out my boots, got myself all bundled up, put in my headphones and headed out.

Quickly I realized that my nice walk would be not so easy. What I had mistaken for clean, clear sidewalks was actually sheets of ice. For a minute I thought about turning back and driving my walk but decided that if I took my time and was careful I could still do it. Besides, I've lived in this city for three winters without a car and walked everywhere so I could surely walk to the bank through the snow and ice. To make sure I didn't fall I took small, short steps... geisha steps if you will. I'm sure people driving by had a laugh when they saw me. However, I'm proud to say that I did not fall once, although there were quite a few close calls.

The second thing I quickly realized once I stepped onto the street was that the wind had picked up a lot since I had gotten home from work. Not realizing this I didn't wear a scarf so needless to say my skin was quite red and numb after only about five minutes. It didn't help that the wind seemed to come from every direction so whichever way I tried to turn my head, I was met with a fierce blast of cold air.

There was a silver lining to it all though. When I was just about two or three blocks from home, as I waited for the light to change so I could cross the street, it began to lightly snow. The scene was almost perfect. If only I could have shared the moment with the person I loved, then it would have been perfect.

Merry (or Happy as they say in Britain) Christmas Everyone!
