Even though I'm sweating like a whore in church, I'm so excited to go on vacation to Paris tomorrow. I've only been there once and that was for a day, so I can't wait to explore the city and take in all that french culture!!!
This trip is dedicated to Mrs. Pollock, my high school french teacher who always said to me "En Francais, s'il vous plais ( I don't think I spelled that right)!!!!
Don't anyone be jealous!!!!! I'm such an ass, aren't I??? Who cares, I'll be in Paris in less than 36 hours!!!!

Air Conditioning
A little over a year ago when I signed the lease at my current apartment I knew that the one thing it didn't have was air conditioning. At the time I thought, it's no big deal, it's hot one month a year in the windy city. Well, after about two weeks of last summers insane heat and humidity I broke down and began my hunt for an air conditioner. There was one small problem, however. My windows were 42" wide. I wasn't going to be able to get away with a small window unit. To make matters worse, my apartment is also a considerable size, meaning I would need a lot of BTU's.
So, with all this in mind, my friend John and I set off for Home Depot. Once we got there we knew this wasn't going to be an easy task. With the help of a very attractive salesman, whom we later saw at a bar in Wicker Park, we settled on a portable air conditioner. I have to be honest though, I would have bought four 10,000 BTU units (one for each window) if he had advised that. If all Home Depot salesman looked like this guy I'd be at Home Depot every single day.
Anyway, back to the air conditioner. Once assured that it was very easy to set up the portable monstrosity we then had to figure out how to get it home. This was definitely one of the times that I wish I had a car. Finally we got it into a cab and headed for home. Once inside, it was, as the salesman had promised, very easy to set up and soon enough my bedroom was freezing cold and the living room was marginally cooler with the help of strategically placed fans blowing the cold air around the apartment.
Fast forward to this summer. I now live with my boyfriend. At first I think he was a little concerned to learn that I used a portable air conditioner. He lived in a place with central air. However, he adjusted very nicely to my rolling cooling machine...UNTIL one day it stopped working. After a morning of my obsessing (imagine that) about why it wasn't working we found a place to get it fixed since it was still under warranty. Phew. Once home again we thought, now we're in the clear. RIGHT. A few days later we were shocked to learn that it was now leaking, steadily. Unable to figure out why, we have rigged up our own fix, since the warranty has conveniently run out. This fix is only after going through 2 to 3 towels a day trying to contain the leak. I know that Adam is OVER my obsessing about the leak and I'm just plain over the leak. I'm ready to buy a condo just for the mere fact that we'd have central air, forget that fact that we'd actually own something of our own and would have equity.

My Travels
In just one short week I'll be on my way to Europe, Paris to be specific. I am so excited!!! One of the reasons I became a flight attendant was for the awesome travel benefits and I intend to continue my world wide escapades with Adam.
Over the course of my seven years in the sky I've been to some really amazing places. Hawaii was the first place I went after becoming an air hostess. It really was one of the most gorgeous places I've ever been (so far) and I saw and did some memorable things there.
From cruises, to condos, I've been to many islands in the caribbean. It's so relaxing and tranquil there. If you just want to relax and do nothing...this is a top pick of mine. Except for St. Croix...what a dump!
Europe is well, awesome. I've only been to a handful of places on this continent and I yearn to go back almost everyday of my life. I want to visit every country. I did have the opportunity to see a lot of places on my Best of Europe cruise last summer. This gave me an idea of where I want to visit again. So far, Amsterdam is tops on my list but it's followed closely by Rome. Life is so different in Europe, so much more relaxed.
I will admit that I'm a little anxious to see how the French are, as I've heard mixed reviews of the people but I know that it's going to be a GREAT trip. Baguettes and wine...I mean, how can I go wrong there? I wish we had more time and money to continue our journey after Paris and take the eurail all over Europe, but alas it's not possible. I guess i'll just have to come back to this great continent again soon...what a shame!

Nancy Grace
So it's been a week since I last blogged. I apoligize profusely to those of you who do check my blog often. Our upcoming trip to Paris is consuming most of my thoughts these days...plus I haven't really had anything to rant and rave about. Can you believe that?
However, there are a few things that I would like to say about one Nancy Grace. The other night on a layover Adam sent me a text to tell me that Elizabeth Smart was on Nancy Grace. Having nothing better to do, I turned to whatever CNN channel she is on. There was Elizabeth, sitting there, while Nancy berated yet another guest. Why people agree to be interviewed on her show is beyond me. She does nothing but yell and then tells her guests that they are wrong and constantly cuts them off in mid-explanation , cutting to some reporter for some podunk newspaper in Hickville USA. Elizabeth sat there, waiting for Nancy to ask her something, probably thinking that Nancy is just as crazy as the couple that abducted her.
One of the first things the asked her was "Elizabeth, honey, did you have any idea how many people were looking for you and were so upset that you had gone missing?" ARE YOU SERIOUS??? She was abducted by two crazy nomads. I'm sure they had a digital satellite system that they carried around the mountains and deserts of the western U.S. I'm even more sure that they were watching CNN all the time. I mean, don't we all??? Why Nancy would even ask a question like this is ridiculous! I had to turn it off after that but I'm sure Nancy just keep with the stupid questions. I also have no doubt that if Elizabeth said something Nancy did't like or agree with, you know that Nancy corrected her. I mean, Elizabeth was the one abducted after all but Nancy knows all and is NOT wrong, EVER!!!!!
Have you ever noticed that Nancy hardly ever has TV reporters on her show to be interviewed?? She always has radio reporters. I'm not dissing radio reporters at all, I'm simply saying that most TV reporters have a higher profile and therefore don't want to look like idiots on Nancy's show, which is what she makes almost everyone look like.
Also, maybe this is the whole theme of the show...EVERYONE is guilty. No matter what. I know that she was a prosecutor in a previous career and that she never lost (thanks for that info baby) but come on. What's the point of watching her show if you know that everyone she talks about is going to be guilty. Where's the fun in that? I for one get sick of watching her berate everyone. It's like watching Oprah. You know Oprah is a witch when it goes to commercial and then puts on that stupid I'm better than everyone smile as soon as the show is back on. Nancy is just a witch the whole time.
I for one think there should be a show called "Witchy TV Hosts and The Guests That Allow Themselves To Be Berated On National TV." Now there's a show I'd watch, right after Project Runway of course. :)

Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos
So here I sit watching Regis and Kelly, sipping my morning Fresca. Only today, much to my delight, Kelly's husband Mark is filling in for Regis. Don't get me wrong, I love me some Regis but come on, Mark is so damn hot. I'm sweating just watching him on TV (or is it because it's already 80 degrees at nine am...either way, I'm sweating.) He is wearing a pink long sleeve button down and is probably one of only a few men that can pull it off.
Anyhow, to the meat of my post. I was thinking to myself during the last commercial break..."Wouldn't it be great for Mark to be her co host when Regis finally throws in the towel?" They have the potential to be the next Ricky and Lucy. Instead of a comedy, it'd be a talk show. Like Lucy and Ricky they are a beautiful couple, are both funny, and one of them is Hispanic. Come on, you know you're thinking it...These two are the new "it" power TV/entertainment couple. Start on a soap, get a talk show or TV series (yes, Lifetime TV series count), guess host on your wife's talk show, and then star in movies. You know they have this all planned out. She may be a pretty blond but you know she's smart and cunning. Just what you need in today's world of entertainment. Just look at Angelina, you know she had it all planned out from the very beginning.

Meet The Family
This past weekend, I took Adam to my hometown to meet my extended family. He had already met my mom a few months ago and that went very, very well. Now was the time for him to meet the extended family.
I will say I was just a little bit nervous as most of my extended family can be described as being just a little bit coun'ry. Most of them knew, or at least had an idea that I was gay but nothing was ever discussed. This time, however, I wasn't just coming home again without a girlfriend and then using some lame excuse as to why I was always without female companionship...this time I was saying, "I'm gay and this is my boyfriend," so to speak.
Speaking of boyfriend, that word was left out of conversations and introductions, as I didn't want to make them all COMPLETELY uncomfortable and I refused to introduce Adam as my friend. We're way more than friends and that wouldn't have been fair to him or our relationship. So, he was simply introduced as Adam and no one asked what his relation to me was.
Adam handled the often too honest comments by my family about one another very well( like when my cousin just starts talking about her boobs and how they are so much nicer since she had her breast reduction...right after she meets Adam) and seemed to adjust very nicely to what I like to call my semi-dysfunctional family. I was so excited for him to see where I grew up and meet my family. After we left my mom told me that everyone commented on how attractive he is (DUH!!!!), how nice he is (again DUH!!), and how they don't care about me being gay, they are just happy I found someone so nice.
It's just one more step in our relationship building phase that we've completed now.
We've met each others extended family and there was no drama. Our relationship has been accepted by our families and that means the world to us.
Next up, Holiday's. Wish us Luck!

A Different You
Everyone knows that we change as we grow older. In my case, I have calmed down a lot. Not many years ago I used to get upset over every little thing. The smallest things would set me off and while I'm not saying this doesn't happen today, it's on a much smaller scale.
I've learned to not sweat the small stuff, as the saying goes. I attribute a lot of this to the death of my father a little over a year ago. His illness made me realize I have to live each day to the fullest and to relax and enjoy all that life has to offer me...to see what's really important.
Recently, I realized just how much more peaceful and relaxed I am as an adult. I communicate much better and without so much emotion. I say what needs to be said and work through the issue. I'm sure most of this comes with maturing as an adult but I just think it's fascinating how far i've come in such a short time. I'm going to have a bit of an ego now and say, I'm proud of myself.

My favorite telly
I'm sure most of us have one or two tv shows that we absolutely love. Whether it's reality or retro tv, it's what you plan your night around. For me, it has to be the Golden Girls.
I know, I know, i'm a homo so this shouldn't come as much of a surprise. It's safe to say that i've seen every episode at least a dozen times yet each time I watch, it's like I'm watching it for the first time. So, as I sit here watching yet another episode i'm wondering just what it is that makes this comedy so exciting for me?
The answer is simple...it's just a damn good show. From the acting to the sarcasm, I LOVE this show. I wish I had watched it when it was actually ON tv, instead of the reruns, but I know I probably wouldn't have gotten the one liners and jokes as a child that make it so funny to me now. I guess what i'm saying is, embrace your tv watching habits no matter what anyone else might think. Eveyone enjoys a little mindless tv watching time in today's day and age.
I hope you've enjoyed this random, meaningless post. It's a monday, what do you expect?
